Cities are often understood through the lens of human activity the roads we travel, the buildings we inhabit, and the systems we create. Yet, they are also shared spaces, inhabited by countless other life forms that continue to exist alongside us. Bengaluru is no exception. Beyond its neighbourhoods, workplaces, and daily routines, the city is home to a remarkable diversity of birds, insects, mammals, trees, and aquatic life that have adapted to the changing urban landscape.
Birds of Bangalore is an ongoing studio project that emerges from a simple observation: the city is shared. Beyond the lives we build and the spaces we occupy, countless other beings move through the same streets, lakes, parks, and neighbourhoods.
The project takes the birds of Bengaluru as a point of entry into this shared urban experience. Through a year-long process of observing, documenting, and interpreting the city's birdlife, we are building an exhibition that brings together all 421 bird species recorded in Bengaluru.
Presented through paintings, sculptures, etched plates and other visual forms, the exhibition is conceived as a space for encounter an opportunity to pause, look closely, and acknowledge the many lives that exist alongside our own.
